Type IV creep voids detection method for high chromium steel welds using ultrasonic backscattered waves

چکیده
In high-chromium ferrite heat-resistant steel pipe welds, which are often used in ultra-supercritical pressure boilers Japan, a large number of Type IV creep voids occur the region deep beneath outer surface and then develop into cracks. When crack is detected, main piping power plant judged to have zero remaining life. Since damage areas material there no non-destructive evaluation (NDE) method for dense prior formation, NDE methods cannot be plant-maintenance planning. The authors selected water-immersion acoustic-imaging method, has highest measurement resolution among ultrasonic-measurement that can expected applied actual equipment, searched greatly exceeds existing resolution. And we focused on reception characteristics ultra-high-focused acoustic lens. For purpose, designed an aspherical, angled lens welded part piping. We also developed new system mechanically scan this probe with high accuracy. As result, using system, changes scattered wave amplitude could observed depending presence or absence void density material, led area.

Measurement of local creep properties in stainless steel welds
A high temperature measurement system for creep deformation based on the digital image correlation (DIC) technique is described. The new system is applied to study the behaviour of a multi-pass welded joint in a high temperature tensile test and a load controlled creep test at 545°C. Spatially resolved tensile properties and time dependent creep deformation properties across a thick section typ...
متن کاملFourier Analysis of Ultrasonic TOFD Signals for Defect Detection in Austenitic Stainless Steel Welds
Non Destructive testing of structural materials is an important activity in many industries. Ultrasonic NDT is one such method widely used in this field. Pulse Echo and Through Transmission are conventional testing techniques which use reflected and transmitted sound energy respectively. But these techniques are highly dependent on defect orientation. Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) is a rece...
متن کاملCorrosion detection in welds and heat-affected zones using ultrasonic Lamb waves
The heat-affected zone in a welded structure is vulnerable to attack by corrosion. Unfortunately, if corrosion occurs, then detection of such areas via a local visual inspection is often difficult because of limited access, and such an inspection may also incur significant time and associated cost penalties because of downtime. One such example, where access is difficult and corrosion may occur...
متن کاملThe development of advanced creep constitutive equations for high chromium steel P91at low stress range
Diffusion dominates the creep deformation at low stress range for high chromium steel P91. Brittle creep fracture is caused by cavity nucleation, growth and coalescence of cavities and large precipitates (Laves phase and M23C6) at grain boundary under low stress range. At low stress range, a linear relation between strain at failure and different stresses has been described. Moreover, the minim...
متن کاملMeasurement of Creep Deformation across Welds in 316H Stainless Steel Using Digital Image Correlation
Spatially resolved measurement of creep deformation across weldments at high temperature cannot be achieved using standard extensometry approaches. In this investigation, a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) based system has been developed for long-term high-temperature creep strain measurement in order to characterise the material deformation behaviour of separate regions of a multi-pass weld. Th...
